Introducing our most recent innovation in mono-material pouches: A Recyclable High-Barrier Mono PE Pouch
Circular economy for flexible packaging starts with design, and to redesign the packaging for sustainability, we must consider beyond the raw material.
Huhtamaki’s goal is to protect food, people, and the planet, by being the first choice in sustainable packaging solutions. Elif, a Huhtamaki company, has a significant position to provide sustainable solutions for the customers.
Therefore we are glad to introduce our most recent innovation in mono-material pouches: A recyclable high-barrier mono PE pouch project using EB printed recyclable packaging, developed in collaboration with Comexi, ESI, Sun Chemical.
The project uses solvent-less printing technology and allows us to replace reverse print and lamination by surface print with in-line EV varnish. With this, we are able to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions not only during production but also during the printing process as well. In addition, thanks to the reduced layers of the packaging we use less material during production.
One of the challenges in recyclable mono-material structures is providing high-barrier properties. Designed for circularity, this solution has proven recyclability and reduced carbon footprint. Certified with a ‘very good’ (19/20) grade by Interseroh.
It offers an EVOH free high-barrier and can be mechanically and chemically recycled where relevant recycling streams exist. It helps to achieve even higher mono-material content to meet increasingly stringent circular economy legislation.
